Jihad Lahham is a recent graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design. Prior to a BFA there, he earned another one at the University of Damascus. Looks like all that schooling paid off. Browsing his portfolio, you can see a strong classic sensibility. His “8 Texts Book” project, however, veers more toward the experimental. The handmade book brings back expressive type in a way which would make Tomato and Rudy Vanderlans proud. Simply described as “expressive explorations in typography,” it is divided into three sections: typographic variables, space/form variables, and sequential variables. We can’t help but admire the marriage of typography and intricate book binding.
